Attachment-Based Play Therapy is a recognised form of play therapy which uses Theraplay™-based activities and playfulness to create positive relationships and attachments between children and their parents/caregivers. In treatment, the Theraplay practitioner guides the parent and child through playful, fun games; developmentally challenging activities; and tender, nurturing activities. The very act of engaging each other in this way helps the parent regulate the child's behaviour and communicate love, joy and safety to the child. It helps the child feel secure, care for, connected and worthy.
Theraplay can help:
- Children to learn to regulate positive and negative emotions
- Children to extend their window of tolerance and develop an ability to regulate their nervous system
- Children to begin to accept structure (directions and rules)
- Parents to learn how to help the child reduce stres
- Parents to start to better understand the child's small face voice, and gesture cues
- Parents to learn to attune to the ups and downs of the child's arousal
Theraplay is particularly suitable for young people who have experienced trauma or attachment disruption, or who present with symptoms of ADHD, ODD, Autism or Anxiety.
Funding available through NDIS.
Age range infant to late primary school age

At Naya Dawn we can develop Individual Therapeutic Care Plans (ITCPs).
ITCPs are designed to support young people with complex presentations by developing a centralised plan which details how professionals and caring adults can work collaboratively to attune to the needs of the child.
Our Social Worker Rachel conducts a series of sessions with parents, children, school staff, and other relevant professionals in the young person's life to obtain an in-depth understanding of the presenting issues, and to develop a structured therapeutic plan with relevant goals and suggestions to sequentially support growth, development and healing.
